Over the Mountain is a tribute to the resilience of Caro Sika's father, who braved many obstacles to emigrate to France, unable to obtain a student visa. The author's father decided to attempt a crossing of the Atlantic Ocean to Spain, passing through Mauritania and then crossing over the Pyrenees before arriving in France.

His journey highlights the difficulties and inequalities that African students faced when they wanted to fulfil legitimate aspirations. This story is set in the 1960s and it is sad to say that more than 60 years later, nothing much changed.

This story is the third book published in the collection "Ancestry in short stories" which explores the intergenerational impact of migration through biographical and anecdotal stories of the author's family members.
